Microcredit Fund formed

Responding the Rotary International’s emphasis on Microcredit / Microfinance, Rotary Club of Lahore Liberty has formed a Microcredit Fund.

When I met Dr Ali Raza through a common friend the agenda was very different, yet very similar: Philanthropy. He was unfamiliar with Rotary, All he knew was about my Ali Free Clinic project. But as we continued to meet and I became more and more aware of his passion for philanthropy, I was amazed by the fact that he had been running a a microcredit project in association with some of his likeminded friends for several years. And, to my utter surprise there was only one default case in all those years.

To me he was a perfect case for being invited to Rotary. And to be requested to help build our microcredit program. Rest, as they say, is history,… in the making!

Rotary District 3270 is putting alot of energies into mobilizing microcredit in this region and has assembled 15 clubs across the districtto lead the initiative. We are proud to be the 16th in that list!

The Rotary Club of Ballart Young Ambition

The Rotary Club of Ballart Young Ambition seems like a Rotary club with a certain difference. I came across their website while doing some Rotary related work and was pleasantly surprised. Well, for one, we both share the same technology for our websites. Our beloved WordPress! While they offer wordpress powered websites to other clubs as a method of fund raiser for their club, we donate these to other organizations as our contribution to their efforts. I did steal their idea of the Next Meeting announcement, though!

Next, they are concentrating, and apparently succeeding in building a club of young people. Here at Lahore Liberty, when I was inducted, a major dilemma of the club was the old age of the members and all the issues that crop up in a club in that state. We have been able to bring in some young blood and infuse activity but I am certainly inspired by the spirit that Young Ambition seems to carry.

Another lesson I learned while browsing their website is that thanks to the WWW, we the Rotarians should spend some time going through other club websites. This can also give us ideas for some of the common problems and how to tackle them. I don’t know anyone at Young Ambition, but all of a sudden, I feel, I found a friend.

And, that’s the spirit of Rotary!
